Maintenance method one
In the oxyacetylene welding process, a violent flame is generated by igniting a controlled mixture of oxygen and acetylene gas. The gases are discharged from the respective gas sources through a pressure regulator. It is introduced into a flare and then discharged from the tip and ignited. The flame intensity is dependent on the flow rate of the gas, the gas mixing ratio, the characteristics of the selected fuel gas, and the type of tip used. The weld pool formed by the contact of the flame, the workpiece and the welding rod forms a weld.
Oxyacetylene welding requires high skill to obtain high quality deposits, a process that is slow. The advantage of oxyacetylene welding is that it provides a base material dilution that is not laser-based. A layer of deposit is usually sufficient to achieve the desired hardness.

TIG welding is the most common method used in the manufacture and repair of extruder screws. Partial intense heat of the TIG causes dilution of certain base materials, so it is necessary to use a second layer to achieve the full hardness of the hardfacing material.
